Description:

  • Ho'okena Beach Park lies on the south Kona coast in Kauhako Bay. It consists of a beach area with dark sand, backed by a few trees and sea cliffs. The shoreline is mostly rocky with sandy areas at the northern and southern ends, that make good entrances into the ocean. Swimming and snorkeling are good at this beach park when the water is calm. When the surf is up the area provides good boogie boarding conditions. Anyone entering the water should be aware of the steep descent of the shoreline. Strong currents can be found far from shore. Camping is permitted at this county park. Facilities include a picnic pavilion and restrooms. Drinking water is not available. Follow Highway 11 southward past Keakoa. The road leading to the beach lies approximately 2.5 miles south of this small community.
