By Train:

Amtrak (+1 800 872 7245 / http://www.amtrak.com) services Savannah from nationwide locations. Amtrak has teamed up with Hertz Rental Car (+1 800 654 3131 / http://www.hertz.com) to accomadate passengers destined for Hilton Head. Be sure to make arrangements with Amtrak ahead of time and Hertz will transport passengers from the train station to the rental agency.

By Bus:

Greyhound (+1 800 231 2222 / +1 512 458 4463 / http://www.greyhound.com) accesses Hilton Head Island daily.

By Car:

To reach Hilton head via car, take I-95 to exit 8, which then becomes I-278 also known as Fording Island Road or William Hilton Parkway. After about 18 miles you will reach the bridge to Hilton Head, at which point if you are heading to the Southern end of the Island (Shipyard, Coligny, Forest Beach, Sea Pines) stay to the left and use the expressway to save time and gas ($1 toll). For all other destinations continue on I-278.

By Boat:

Because Hilton Head is on the Intracostal Waterway, it is easily accessible by boat; however, make docking reservations well in advance.

Getting Around:

Hilton Head is only 12 x 5 miles in size, so the island's options are a bit limited. I-278 North leads back to the mainland, and I-278 South ends at the infamous Sea Pines traffic circle. From there, traffic is directed either to Sea Pines, Pope Avenue, or Palmetto Bay.
