As diverse as Hiroshima is, there is an astounding array of things to do in the area. The city's unique history makes sightseeing something special. Infamous for being the city hit with an atomic bomb in 1945, there are both remnants of the city's sordid history and areas of remarkable new growth. The first stop is Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Museum, where you can learn all about the amazing history of the area. Then, head on over to Peace Memorial Park, home to the artistic dedications of the atomic bomb and its effect on the people of Hiroshima. In the Naku-ku area, one not-to-be-missed landmark is referred to as the A-Bomb Dome, which is literally a standing reminder of the physical devastation in the city. Any trip to Hiroshima is remiss without a visit to the Hiroshima Museum of Art. Another gem in the Naku-ku area is the Hiroshima "Carp" Castle, which was once destroyed by the atomic bomb but was masterfully rebuilt into the stunning attraction on view today.
