Description:
It's impossible not to think of The Quiet American when staying at this historic hotel. Graham Greene made it a central character in his classic tale of intrigue in Indochina and it still resonates with romance despite having undergone many a renovation since the author's time in the city. In fact, one of its most famous features, the 'Continental shelf' balcony café – beloved of many a war correspondent – has long since passed into history. Despite the changes, the hotel remains one of the most appealing in the city. Its French-style design and architecture remains largely intact while rooms are smart and slightly more affordable than in other downtown hotels. It has two very serviceable restaurants while its outdoor café is a great place for people watching thanks to its location on a pavement directly opposite the Opera House.
