• For a rapidly emerging international class city, Saigon is woefully short of resort style options. While downtown hotels such as The Caravelle, the Continental and The Rex resonate with history and make great play of their central location; they are not exactly places to retreat from the hustle and bustle of one of the world's fastest-paced conurbations. At present, those looking for a modicum of solace without having to catch a flight to the coast only really have one option. Thankfully, it's a pretty good one. Situated on the other side of the Saigon River in the expat haven of District 2, Thao Dien ticks all the right boxes. It's convenient enough for exploration of the city – it only takes a few minutes by boat to get to the main attractions in District 1 – but it benefits from a peaceful riverside location, a keen sense of style and some very competent food at its four restaurants.
