- We read reviews of Huong Lai and wanted to try it out. Located right near the heart of District 1, it seemed like the perfect place for dinner. We made reservations (a must, so call ahead). The restaurant is a cozy place; a perfect location fro a quiet, romantic dinner. We could have chosen a set menu, but decided to go our own way. Here is a list of our dishes: 1.) Appetizer - Fresh and fried spring rolls, lotus salad 2.) Fried pork ribs with lemongrass - completely amazing and revelatory. You haven't lived until you have had deep fried ribs. 3.) Sauteed prawns with flower chives - The prawns were like butter, like butter!! 4.) Fresh spinach sauteed with garlic - hands down the best spinach I've ever had 5.) Seafood fried rice - Very good and not greasy at all. 6.) Purple sweet potato soup - Very oddly reminiscent of purple egg drop soup 7.) Lychee Ice Cream - Yum! 8.) Che - A hot, sweetened string bean soup. It was as tasty as it sounds - meaning not at all. This was a fantastic meal. It felt like a a quaint hideaway, a place that hopping but still undiscovered. The flavors were so subtle and crisp. And the entire bill, including drinks, cost $28. Nice. I would recommend this place to anyone.
