• Bringing north Indian and tandoori cuisine at its best to Vietnam since 1995, this luxurious little enclave a good little ride north of the Don Khoi area is set in a casual, comfortable French-style villa in District 3 (about 20,000 VND/$1.35/£0.75 by taxi from downtown). Start with an appetizer of pakora, savory fritters, or samosas. As the name suggests, cuisine at Tandoor centers around the traditional clay oven fired at high heat with charcoal, which is great for grilling meat and browning good Indian breads. The restaurant is best known for their good kabobs of mutton, chicken, or fish. Try the chicken kabob marinated in spinach and mint before it's grilled in the tandoor oven, or the vegetarian kabob of minced vegetables with cheese. They serve all kinds of biryani, unique Kashmiri specials, a host of good curries -- great creamy Korma and spicy vindaloo -- and Saag dishes of spinach done with mutton, chicken, fish, or seafood. They have good side salads and yogurt dishes to cool the palate, and follow it up with a sweet lassi yogurt drink. They offer set lunches for Saigon's busy business crowd, cater events for large parties, and offer free home (or hotel) delivery.
