• The entire trip takes about 7 hours with an outboard motor, or 9 days by canoe. However, boats more than 18 feet (5.5 m) long or with high cabins or windshields are discouraged from attempting the trip due to overhanging vegetation and slender channels. Numbered markers guide you through mangrove forests, through Whitewater Bay, and around countless islands.. The numbered markers are just guides to nautical charts and a compass. These combined elements are extremely important for finding your way in the coastal zone that oftentimes looks very redundant. Launching is available at both Visitor Centers in Everglades National Park.
