Description:
Established in 1977, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra is the world's largest professional Chinese-instrument orchestra. It features more than 80 full-time musicians who perform both traditional folk music and full-scale contemporary works, including commissioned pieces, in approximately 30 concerts annually. Musicians play a wide range of traditional and modern Chinese instruments (mainly stringed Chinese instruments, which are completely different from Western violins, cellos, and so on), as well as suitable Western instruments, combining them with Western orchestrations or Chinese music. Guest musicians, like Yo-Yo Ma, sometimes perform with the orchestra.
