Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers

Description:

• The Sheraton has one of the most envied locations in Hong Kong -- near the waterfront on the corner of Nathan Road and Salisbury Road -- and is an easy walk to the subway and Star Ferry. Its lobby, tucked away on the second floor to discourage foot traffic, has a sleek, contemporary look graced by Asian motifs and subdued lighting, but the front desk is annoyingly high (I have to stand on tippytoes). A plus is the outdoor rooftop swimming pool, heated in winter, offering a spectacular view and more privacy than pools lower to the ground. Guest rooms are decorated in neutral brown and range from those facing an inner courtyard (the cheapest) to those facing the harbor with great views even from bathrooms. In between are those that overlook surrounding Tsim Sha Tsui, some of which face Nathan Road and even provide sideways glimpses of the harbor. Still, located between The Peninsula and InterContinental, it plays second fiddle to both in terms of reputation, class -- and, luckily, price. Americans account for one-third of the guests here.
