Outside you can explore a 1955 KCR diesel engine, a narrow gauge steam train.

  • Description:

    • Tai Po for many years a district of rural villages in the northeastern New Territories, and while the center of the district is now a heaving new town, it does retain some sites pointing to its history. One of these is the Hong Kong Railway musuem situated at the old Tai Po Market station. The musuem opened in 1985 after the station was passed to the Government by the Kowloon Canton Railway, following line electrification in 1983. Unlike other stations in the territory, the station was built in a Chinese architectural style and features the pitched roof of a traditional Chinese building. The site, declared a historical monument in 1984, was refurbished and opened as a museum in 1985. The station is now home to an exhibition detailing Hong Kong's rail history. There will be plenty to occupy your visit, now least of which will be imagining how over the last 100 years people have depended on this railway line both for travel and transport of goods. On display are photographs, old coaches and track, an electric-train mock-up and a narrow gauge steam locomotive, as well as other railway memorabilia.
