Kilauea Iki Trail - Honolulu

  • Description:

    • The Kilauea Iki Trail descends 400 feet through rain forest, crosses the crater floor, passes Pu'u Pua'i cinder cone and returns via the crater's rim. This trail follows a four-mile loop and is rated as moderately difficult by the Park Service. It leads visitors in and around the Kilauea Iki Crater, beginning at the Thurston Lava Tube parking area. Volcanic formations along the trail include: a lava lake, steam vents and a cinder and spatter cone.
      Drive two miles south toward Thurston Lava Tube. The trail begins in the parking area.
