- Trail begins on the Polipoli Access Road at 6400` elevation and proceeds up Haleakala through plantings of mixed pine species. It passes by a natural cave and climbs across the mountain side encountering scrubby vegetation and increasingly rugged terrain. It crosses the land of Kaonoulu to the land of Waiakoa, where it reaches its highest pont at 7,800` elevation, affording excellent views of Coastal and West Maui. The trail then descends via switch backs to join the Waiakoa Loop Trail at 6,000`. There is no water or other facility along this trail.
