How is the local muni bus system for getting around as a tourist?

The local bus company is called "TheBUS" and they take pride their service and their coverage. Their coverage is excellent and one of the reasons they have won the BEST municipal bus service in the country 2 times between 2001-2009. The numerous routes offered and times provide coverage for nearly the whole island from 5am through midnite, even later on the weekends.

The transportation system here is great. As other mentioned, "The Bus" will pretty much take you around the island and stop by various famous tourist spots. It will only take you $2.50 USD to get a ride. And within 3 hours, you can get another ride back to wherever stop you want as well.

"the bus" is amazingly reliable and gets you pretty much anywhere for $2.50 (exact change or change will not be given back). If you pay cash, the bus driver will give you a transfer ticket (a free bus ride). Another option would be to get a bus pass (sold at any 7-11). The tour buses are pretty good to get you where you need to go in a small area. There are also tour buses that can take you all around the Island and show you some really nice sight seeing areas. It is a great way to be able to experience all of the island on a short trip.

I don't know what you mean by muni but there are city buses for you to travel around on though. Just call 808-848-5555 for bus info. God Bless!
