The Modern Hotel is easy to find and get to, provides plenty of parking, and books quickly. When it was a Travel Lodge way back when, you could have pulled in from the dusty highways of Idaho and found a room with no problem. But not these days. The Modern has been discovered, so advance booking is a must.

• Location: The Modern Hotel is in Grove Street in Boise's Linen District, the center for all things hip and urban in downtown Boise. The Linen Building is across the street, a center for music, arts, and events. The best scones in the world are just down the block at Big City Coffee.
  
  Rooms: With 41 rooms and five suites, the Modern Hotel can accommodate whatever you need. You will feel as if you've stepped onto the set for "Mad Men." All furnishings are mid-century, sleek and straight. But this is not the same old Travel Lodge from 1970. Everything here is the top of the luxury scale. Aveda personal products, wall-mounted flat screens, Japanese soaking tubs. The price matches the vibe, so be prepared to spend a bit when you stay here.
  
  Features: Martinis are on the menu at the Modern Lounge, located within the hotel. A beautiful wooded courtyard makes a secluded site for meetings or receptions. Lots of off-street parking. Some of Boise's best night clubs just blocks away. The best breakfast in town just down the block. Everything is close and fast at the Modern.
