NileGuide Expert tip:

Avoid trying to get lunch at the Co-op between noon and 1:00. Students from Boise High, just blocks away, flock here for their lunch break, and it's crowded, noisy, and chaotic.

Description:

The Boise Co-op is a locally owned and managed natural and organic foods grocery, so eating here can include buying your own fresh, organic food to take home. Or you can stop by the deli for a great grab and go meal.

The deli sandwiches are huge, varied, and made on the spot. They come with potato chips and a smile. Daily soup specials make a perfect side kick.

In the deli case you can find fresh salads and meals made daily. One of my favorites is the butternut squash ravioli, and I buy it whenever it appears. There's also a terrific Tillamook mac and cheese, tamales, apricot meatballs, and many more delicious choices, for everyone from vegan to omnivores.

For drinks, check out the coffee counter or go to the back of the store where you can find dozens of natural sodas and canned drinks. My son loves Jones green apple, or the old fashioned Dr. Pepper in a bottle.

For dessert, a display case right next to the deli case features pies and tarts, cookies and bars galore. Or check out the Wildflower Bakery case. They have the best cookies anywhere on the planet.
