  • Description:

    • Boise's historic synagogue, built in 1895, serves the longest continually operating congregation west of the Mississippi River. Built in a Moorish style, the synagogue originally sat at a site near downtown Boise. In 2004, with the blessings of everyone in the community, a massive move was undertaken to move the building to a site across the Boise River and up a hill. Parades of people from throughout the community followed the slow-going procession through the night as intense maneuvering brought the building to its present site. The congregation built a large multipurpose building next to it, and the synagogue has continued to thrive in its new location. With more space indoors and out, more activities can take place in one location.
