• Boise's historic synagogue, built in 1895, serves the longest continually operating congregation west of the Mississippi River. Built in a Moorish style, the synagogue originally sat at a site near downtown Boise. In 2004, with the blessings of everyone in the community, a massive move was undertaken to move the building to a site across the Boise River and up a hill. Parades of people from throughout the community followed the slow-going procession through the night as intense maneuvering brought the building to its present site. The congregation built a large multipurpose building next to it, and the synagogue has continued to thrive in its new location.
