• Shafer Butte is way more than a mere butte. It's a mountain, pure and simple. At the peak, you're standing above 7,000 feet. You can look to the south and see then entire Treasure Valley, including Boise. At night, the city lights twinkle like stars. But look to the sky and see real stars--with very little light pollution. Other views look out across the majestic mountains of Idaho.
  
  Shafer Butte has a picnic area, a campground, and lots of trails for hiking and mountain biking. And it's such a short easy drive from Boise, you won't have to take all day getting there.
