Description:
On a rocky point of land at the southern tip of Ile d'Orléans stands this romantic country inn and restaurant with a wraparound porch. The building is a virtual replica of the 1880 Victorian house that stood here until 1996. That one burned to the ground, leaving nothing but the staircase. This one recreates the period flavor with tufted chairs, Tiffany-style lamps, and antiques. All rooms are individually furnished and face the water, and first-floor units have small terraces. There are two apartments suitable for groups or longer stays. The river slaps at the foundation of the glass-enclosed terrace dining room, which is a grand observation point from which to watch cruise ships and Great Lakes freighters steaming past. A goéliche, by the way, is a small schooner; until the mid-1900s, they transferred goods from the St. Lawrence River's shore to larger schooners.
