Description:
Built in 1900, the Sporthotel is a fancifully designed establishment that's a cross between a baroque castle and a mountain chalet. Its details include jutting bay windows, at least three ornate hexagonal towers, and rows of flower-covered balconies. The spacious interior is dotted with antiques and conservative furniture, with plenty of gemütlich corners and sunny areas, both indoors and out. An annex handles the overflow. Rooms, which come in a variety of sizes, are cozily outfitted in the Tyrolean style, with lots of varnished pine and regional knickknacks. The owners also own an 18-unit Relais & Châteaux property, the Schlosshotel Igls.
The hotel has a large dining room where dinner is served to guests on the half-board plan. It also has an attractive a la carte restaurant for nonguests. Nonsmoking areas are provided. Tyrolean/Austrian cuisine is served, along with international and diet menus. In the evening, a one-man band plays in the hotel bar, and Tyrolean folkloric evenings are sometimes staged.
