• Getting a nice steak in Iquitos can be quite a challenge, but El Carbon is definitely your best bet if you crave a delicious grilled steak, chicken, or fish meal. Located just one block from the Plaza de Armas on Huallaga Ave, El Carbon is easy to find and well known. Just walk away from the river one block and look to your right across the street. El Carbon has a menu that consists solely of grilled food: various cuts of beef, chicken filets and shishkabobs, and a few choices of fish like dorado and paiche. Most meals are accompanied by a small salad, grilled potatoes, and steamed vegetables. A delicious collection of sauces are served separately on the tables. Hot sauce, cheese sauce, and some local favorites. The restaurant is always very clean and well decorated, but it gets full during dining hours, which are usually a little later than normal in Iquitos, so you may want to get there early to ensure you get a table, or might have to wait. This is a good sign that the food is great, as most people who visit this restaurant are locals. The menu is only in spanish, so if you don't speak the language it's a good idea to bring your dictionary, or just take your chances. It's hard to make a bad choice at El Carbon. The prices are a bit higher than most restaurants, but still affordable and definitely worth it. If you like eating steak and your in Iquitos, then El Carbon is your spot.
