Frutas de la Costa

    • This corner fruit store is my favorite place in Iquitos to get a fruit salad and fruit juice. They have a wide variety of fruit that can be purchased by the kilo as well. Fruits like watermelon, mangoes, apples, mandarins, papayas, bananas, peaches, pears, plums, grapes, and other exotic fruits like pepinos, tumbo, and tuna can be purchased there, but my favorite thing to get there is the fruit salad. It is served in a chalice similar to a big ice cream sundae. A pile of fruit overflowing the huge parfait bowl is accompanied by strawberry yogurt, carob syrup, and a cereal that resembles sugar smacks. It is pure heaven, and their selection of fruit juices make the perfect compliment to the salad. They offer watermelon juice, melon juice, grape juice, mango juice, and various other interesting options. Usually, they have at least five juices available. The shop itself is clean and well kept. The tables are diner style and the shop has a large screen television for keeping up with the soccer games or watching the news while you eat. The best part of this wonderful fruit emporium is that it is open early in the morning and stays open until 11pm at night. People are always coming in to get a fruit salad and relax for a bit with a nice juice and good conversation. It is such a comfortable place with the freshest food in Iquitos. I feel blessed to live close by.
