- The 4th Annual Whale Shark Festival will be held on the island of Isla Mujeres July 15-17, 2011.
Whale sharks are "the largest fish in the world", reaching lengths or around 50 feet. Tours to swim with whale sharks are available during the Summer months, when they migrate to the waters off of Isla Mujeres and Isla Holbox. The giant fish do not eat meat and are not a danger to humans.
The festival will feature whale shark tours, a parade, activities on the beach, a fishing tournament for children and shows and theatrical performances. Conferences about whale sharks and whale shark preservation will also be held. This is a family-friendly event.
Isla Mujeres is just a 30-minute ferry ride from Cancun so it's easy for you to attend the festival if you are staying in Cancun. - © NileGuide2012
