Discover Istanbul through the eyes of its modern and classic art. Modern art has been picking quite fast recently with many young and mature artists making exemplary jumps into the arena with themed arts and exhibitions. To follow some of these very interesting new forms art, do not forget to drop by art galleries in Nisantasi, Karaköy and Beyoğlu. Galleries like Galeri Nev, X-Ist, Ramba, Art Sümer may get you started on an introductory phase into modern Turkish art.
There is yet on the other hand classic art forms that have influences from centuries back. Ottoman art, Ottoman art on carpets, on walls, on decorative items are all classic forms of art. In the Ottoman era, art as in a painting was much less common and much less popular due to religious influences. What remains from that era is therefore embedded in ornaments and figurines.
