Description:
- The Kariye Museum was renovated in the 11th Century, after being damaged by Crusaders and this is when the mosaics and frescoes were first added. After the Ottomans conquered Istanbul, the Church of Caria was turned into a mosque. In the first years of the Turkish Republic, the building was rechristened as a museum and is now available for visiting.
