Mosaic Museum

Description:

  • The Mosaic Museum exhibits the mosaic relics of the 4th and 6th centuries of the Grand Palace, which were discovered and extracted in 1930s. The excavations were led by British archaeologists from the University of St Andrews in Scotland in 1935-1938 and 1951-1954 at Arasta Bazaar in Sultanahmet Square. Arasta Bazaar was built over the remains of the Grand Palace; and it was inside the Arasta Bazaar, that parts of the south-western Great Palace with a surface of 1872 m², entirely decorated with mosaics, were discovered. Amazing samples are exhibited inside the museum at Arasta Bazaar.
