La Tourelle Resort & Spa

• Another fine country inn in a peaceful location on the outskirts of Ithaca, this small hotel is a good choice for those who like the amenities of large hotels, but some of the intimacies of smaller inns. La Tourelle recently added a full-service "August Moon" day spa as well as 19 new rooms. The lobby is handsomely done in Mexican tiles, and the 70-acre grounds, with four tennis courts, are lovely. Rooms are large and decorated with either light wood furnishings and salmon-colored floral designs or darker Mexican, handcrafted furniture and more masculine decor. The feather beds are plush and the bathrooms quite large. Though their appeal may be limited, two incongruous tower rooms are circular and have kitschy sunken round beds, mirror-paneled ceilings, and even a disco ball -- perfect for that retro anniversary weekend! Tennis fans can stay at the tennis cottage near the courts. The John Thomas Steakhouse on the property is a fine country restaurant specializing in dry-aged beef.
