• The National Gallery of Indonesia is located on the eastern side of Freedom Square in the very heart of Central Jakarta. Marvel at the artworks on display and gain an appreciation of the rich artistic heritage of the vast archipelago of Indonesia. Besides the breadth of the collection—around 1,700 artworks in total—the quality lies in the depth of the art, and many of Indonesia's master painters feature here, including legendary artists such as Raden Saleh, Affandi and Basoeki Abdullah. In addition to the Indonesian art, they also host some pieces from other countries, most notably other developing countries like India, Cuba and Vietnam. All in all, well worth the visit even if you only have a passing interest in Southeast Asian art.
