Sunset Beach Resort & Spa

Description:

  • This all-inclusive hotel is a member of a small-scale chain that's owned and operated by a Jamaica-based family. It opened in 1998 and aims for a marketing niche that's just a touch less upscale (and less expensive) than that occupied by the Beaches and Sandals groups. The complex consists of three separate beaches; two canary-yellow, 10-story towers; and an annex, the Beach Inn, whose low-rise design allows guests closer and more immediate access to the sand. Accommodations are outfitted in a subdued motif that includes vague references to tropical design, but tends to be more soothing (and blander) than the decor of many of its competitors. Rooms are fairly spacious, with comfortable beds, plus medium-size bathrooms with tubs and showers.

Meals, featuring a varied cuisine, are served at each of the property's four restaurants which focus, respectively, on Italian, Pacific Rim, Jamaican/Caribbean, and International. There's also nightly entertainment.

Facilities: 4 restaurants; 6 bars (2 swim-up); 3 pools; minigolf; 4 lit tennis courts; fitness center/health club; spa; Jacuzzi (suitable for up to 25 people at a time); beachfront volleyball; watersports that include snorkeling, paddle boats, kayaking; children's programs ("Club Mongoose" for pre-teens and "Pirates' Cove" for teens); game rooms; coin-operated laundry; disco; nighttime entertainment, small-stakes casino (slot machines only); shuffleboard courts; giant chess and checkerboards; Internet cafe; rooms for those w/limited mobility
