Description:
This place some 6km (3 3/4 miles) from the town center enjoys a good reputation. You don't have to be a guest of the Charela Inn, in which the restaurant lies, to sample the cuisine, which owners Daniel and Sylvia Grizzle describe as a "dash of Jamaican spices" with a "pinch of French flair." Within a covered breezeway that's open on two sides to a view of the gardens, you can order dishes that include foie gras from the Landes region of France (priced at from US$48 to US$62 (£24-£31) per plateful, depending on its size), snails prepared in the style of Burgundy, assorted seafood appetizers, or a Jamaican vegetarian plate. Main courses feature pastas, including a delectable version with lobster; Caribbean-style pork chops; duck in orange sauce; shrimp in garlic sauce; grilled lobster; and locally caught red snapper in coconut sauce. And if you really want to go native, the menu even offers curried goat meat. For dessert, try a sugared crêpe stuffed with homemade ice cream and drizzled with coffee liqueur. Many of the wines and champagnes offered here are imported from France.
