Description:
- Slaves from the Pens Hurst property started this beautiful little church in the early 1800's. Numbering approximately forty they used to meet in caves to worship. The first deacon was a slave named James Findlayson.Just seeing this church is like steeping back in time. The cut stonework is old and is reminiscent of much earlier times. Designed in the shape of a cross it reminds one of an old English church. The windows are oval shaped French windows of old Jamaica. It is interesting that we are now returning to the style in building today. The present pastor, Rev. Everard G. Allen is the first native minister of the church.
