Bussu Festival

Description:

  • This festival explores the secrets of this freshwater shellfish, similar to a snail. The 'bussu' or 'janga' is a local term for crayfish. The soup is a favorite with Jamaican men who swear about its power as an aphrodisiac. Whether it is curried or stewed, it certainly makes for a tasty dish. A bussu variation of the popular Jamaican patty will be on sale, as well as craft items made from the shells of these shellfish, such as earrings. Local entertainment in traditional folk form, such as Kumina, bruckins and storytelling is a part of the package.
