Description:
- Although the exact year that the church was erected is not known, it has been ascertained that it is over one hundred years old. It is erected on an old sugar estate in the sugar belt of Retreat, St. Mary. The Riggs family donated part of their land in 1820 for the building of a church and cemetery. The cut stone building has a presence all its own. The front of the building has a bell tower, with circular windows. There are lots of windows, which allow the natural breeze to cool the interior. Stately palms grace the front churchyard, as well as a number of gravestones. Some sections were destroyed by fire in 1994. Since then renovations has been ongoing.
