  • The Best of NileGuide
  • There are two main areas for nightlife in Jerusalem. One is on the fringes of the downtown area in and around Hillel and Shlomzion Hamalka Streets and the other is a 10 minute drive to the south of the city in the Talpiot industrial area. The clubs in Talpiot tend to be larger and noisier than the downtown venues, and it's easier to walk around the downtown area to get a feel for the different places. Within a 15 minute walking radius you'll be able to sample as many places as your stamina allows.

Several of the downtown hotels have good bars that are quieter, where you can rub shoulders with the local yuppies. Some even have the added bonus of a magnificent views over the Old City.

Without a doubt, the most beautiful place to catch a drink in the summer months (May 1-September 30) is the courtyard summer garden bar at the American Colony Hotel in eastern Jerusalem--one of the few places in Jerusalem where Arabs, Jews, foreign diplomats and journalists mingle.
