Marvad Haksamim (Magic Carpet)

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

You can make a meal out of the hearty Yemenite soup.

    Description:

    • It's hard to get a lunch or dinner table at this bustling no-frills place, known for heaping plates of fresh, home-style food. Turnover is fast, however, and you'll be rewarded for waiting. Your meal comes with Yemenite tomato purée and a large freshly baked loaf of flat, flaky Yemenite salouf bread (a very small extra charge and very worthwhile). Main-course offerings include big portions of goulash, schnitzel, chicken, brisket, or grilled meats served with your choice of potatoes, rice, pasta, vegetables, or salad. You probably won't need a first course to fill up, but in case you want a light meal, you can have a plate of five kinds of house salads or stuffed vegetables. There are also rich Yemenite calf's foot, or pumpkin, potato, and meat soups as well as Kurdish-style koubeh soups and European blintzes (including liver blintzes) that make the menu a bit exotic. Service is attentive and speedy. This is an extremely good value.
