Located in the heart of the city's restored 19th-century restaurant district, this pub is a Jerusalem favorite -- cozy, atmospheric, affordable, and serving great food. The menu includes everything from roast beef sandwiches, fresh fish, and baby back ribs to biriyani, goulash soup, and patai noodles. Hefty stir-fried salads filled with chunks of hot chicken or marinated livers mixed with mild herbs and spices are affordable and are meals in themselves, as is the rich sweet-potato soup and the special in-season mango soup. This is a favorite spot for wine, a salad, soup, desserts, and conversation. Shanty also offers outdoor seating in good weather and a well-stocked bar.
