Jericho Half Day Tour from Jerusalem: Inn of the Good Samaritan & Tell Es Sultan

Description:

  • Combine fascinating history with dramatic scenery in this half day tour to Jericho. Enjoy the striking contrast of the stark Judean desert against the lush, green city of Jericho, and explore the ancient sites made famous from biblical tales along the way.

Set off into the Judean desert where sand-covered mountains and cliffs stand alongside moon-landscaped plateaus and deep canyons. From the comfort of your air-conditioned coach take in the dramatic scenery as you pass the Inn of the Good Samaritan – the setting of a popular New Testament tale. After a short break at sea level to stretch your legs, your day trip will continue onto the lush, paradise of Jericho (the City of Palms) – a fascinating contrast to the barren desert wilderness that it sits in.

At over 800m below sea level, Jericho is the lowest city on earth as well as the oldest! Remains have been discovered by archaeologists which date as far back as 8000BC, so unsurprisingly this is a city steeped in ancient history and culture. See the sights of many a biblical tale, such as the old Sycamore tree which Zacheaus the tax collector climbed in order to see Jesus walking by. Visit Tell es Sultan, the spot where ancient Jericho was destroyed and rebuilt many times – creating an incredible 60ft mound of earth.

Just west of Jericho, your day trip will stop for an overview of Mt Temptation where the devil Satan tried to tempt Jesus by showing him the desires of the world. Concluding with a summary of the oasis of Jericho and Elisha's spring, your tour will then head back to Jerusalem on board your air-conditioned coach.
