NileGuide Expert Says:
One of the best 360 degree views in Jerusalem from the top of the church tower.
NileGuide Expert tip:
You'll need strong legs to climb the couple of hundred steps to the top of the tower, but the view is worth it.
Description:
Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany made his pilgrimage to Jerusalem in 1898 to dedicate the Church of the Redeemer, a Protestant church just outside the gates to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Ottoman-Turkish permission to allow construction of a Protestant church at such a prestigious location symbolized the growing alliance between Germany and the Ottoman Empire, one that would continue through World War I. The church has become a venue for concerts and performances of organ music; the view from the tower (no elevator, and a steep climb of more than 200 steps) is exceptional.
