Description:
For many years, one of the city's hidden treasures has been this vast, outstanding private collection of antique Chanukah menorahs, paper cuts, kiddush cups (ceremonial wine goblets), wedding contracts, mezuzzot (sacred parchment holders, affixed to the doors of Jewish households), and other items of Judaica hidden away on the fourth floor of the Heichal Shlomo-Great Synagogue complex. In keeping with contemporary museum trends throughout the world, the Wolfson apparently exhibits only a few objects from its regular collection, where dozens of items were once shown. The main attractions are well-chosen temporary exhibits of antique and contemporary Judaica coordinated to Jewish holidays according to the time of year. Although mostly composed of antique objects, the collection also includes works of contemporary Judaica by such craftspeople as Oded Davidson and Danny Azulai, whose workshops can be visited in downtown Jerusalem.
