Getting There

Trains travel from Jilin to Changchun (10 daily; 1 1/2 hr.; ¥16/$2.10/£1.05), Yanji (six daily; 9 hr.; ¥66/$8.60/£4.30), Shenyang (six daily; 5-5 1/2 hr.; ¥118/$15/£7.70), Harbin (5 1/2 hr.; ¥35/$4.55/£2.30) and Beijing (9:47pm; 12 hr.; ¥263/$34/£17). The railway station (Jilin Zhan) is north of the river, at the intersection of Zhongkang Lu and Chongqing Jie; the ticket office is open from 5am to 1:30am. The main long-distance bus station (Gonglu Keyun Zong Zhan or Chalu Xiang) is at Zhongkang Lu 13, west of the railway station; buses leave from here for Tonghua (all day; ¥18/$2.35/£1.20), Harbin (6 1/2 hr.; ¥138/$18/£9), and Yanji (8am; 6 hr.; ¥84/$11/£5.45). Express buses to Changchun (every 30 min., 6am-6pm; 2 hr.; ¥33/$4.30/£2.15) depart from the Linjiang Men Keyun Zhan on Xi'an Lu, a block west of Linjiang Guangchang. Flights to Beijing (Wed and Sat) and Shanghai (Wed and Sun) leave from the Gudianzi Jichang, 30km (19 miles) west of the city. The CAAC ticket office (Minhang Shoupiao Chu; tel. 0432/245-4260; open 8am-5pm) is behind the Dongguan Hotel at Chongqing Lu 1. An airport shuttle leaves from here at 11:30am and costs ¥10 ($1.30/65p). A taxi to the airport costs ¥40 ($5.20/£2.60).

Getting Around

Jilin Dajie, the main thoroughfare, runs north-south through the middle of town. Most buses (¥1/15¢/10p) stop at the railway station; bus no. 32 leaves from the railway station and travels along Jilin Dajie. Taxis charge ¥5 (65¢/35p) for the first 2km (1 1/4 miles) and ¥1.80 (25¢/£15) per kilometer after that.
