There is nothing particularly outstanding but several places worth trying here. You need to exercise some caution, however, as some pubs, discotheques and karaoke lounges around Johor Bahru are owned or frequented by Chinese gangs that may not take kindly to foreign visitors. There are a number of karaoke clubs along the downtown corridor and commercial area of Taman Sentosa.
The De Bieres Pub & Café is located at the foot of the DNP tower and is an excellent pub with great service. Caesar Karaoke and Musical Lounge is a karaoke bar that is located on the lower deck of a floating barge. The bar is a great place where you can get together with friends for karaoke and drinks. It serves a variety of drinks and is open daily. Bongo Pub has an upscale publike atmosphere with a large, centrally located donut-shaped bar surrounded by tables and a darker, more intimate seating arrangement reminiscent of lounge bars off to one side. This is a watering hole patronized by the local white-collar crowd. Live entertainment by a Filipino band starts at 9 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sundays, and the pub can get raucous at times.
Lost Malaya Gallery & Lounge is in an old colonial bungalow along the seaside, converted into an art gallery and lounge. A small lounge on the first floor serves drinks (including beer) and light snacks. The ambience is relaxing and cozy. There is also a pool table. It makes for a nice place for friends to hang out in the evening without the loud banging music of the typical night spots in JB.
Massage is offered at a number of places, both day and night. One popular spot is the Emperor Spa and Wellness, (previously known as Lommi Lommi), located at 15, Jalan Kuning 2, Taman Pelangi. Another is Edes Spa, a Swiss therapeutic spa offering a wide range of anti-stress, revitalizing and rejuvenating hydrotherapy, and body and facial treatments. It has a relaxing ambience with private and luxuriously spacious suites and massage rooms with showers.
