Description:
Always busy -- so book ahead -- this hideaway is tops in Kep. Lined with frangipani trees and fine gardens, the Champey Inn overlooks fishing boats, the large crab market, and the wide blue-green sea. Best are the small bungalow-style, thatch-roofed rooms surrounding the midsize pool. Just adjacent to the pool area (near the entrance) is another small courtyard with free-standing bungalows, these done with terra-cotta tile roof in an almost American Southwest theme, with air-conditioning. Thatch rooms are au naturel, but the fans and fresh sea air are quite pleasant. Each room has a private sun deck with lounge chairs (again, best at poolside). Open-air bathrooms are fun and rustic in smoothed color concrete. There's also a good in-house tour company.

We didn't like Kep at all. It's really run down and the beaches are a mess with litter everywhere. The sea is murky. There are stray dogs everywhere. We understand that Cambodia...
