User Review:
- Lewella – Sirimalwatte in Kandy Lewella is the last town bordering the city where you cross the bridge at Lewella to enter the tiny suburb "Sirimalwatte. Though it is the border the distance from the centre of the city ois on few kilometers to this location and there is a quite a good bus service from the city. Specially for a tourist who make Kandy his transit point for touring Lewella or Sirimalwatte are fine locations to stay as you can return to your lodge even at late hours in the evening , in a three wheeler. This area is quite famous for budget lodging as there are many small lodges along the winding road which descends from the town , down to the bridge. Crossing over to Sirimalwatte, you find the real village with two beautiful lodges facing the river for accommodation to few people. On the other side of the road leading to the river you could see some nice paddy fields and a small food path like road leading to a climb of steps lead you to a rock temple called "Bodhigala viharaya" From this location you cold view one side of the town while the other side gives you a panoramic view of "Dumbara valley". Any tourist who need a long stay or few days in one place could enjoy the tranquility of the river in one of the lodges where only few people could be accommodated as this type of lodging is called home-lodge type. Your food could be ordered or you can always bring your food from outside in places like this where e the stay is quite economical. If you are a bird watcher or an artist , there is no better place than one of these river side lodges as you are for yourself with total tranquility and no one to disturb. A s the river is so close to the lodge you have certain amount of security , even after dark . From Sirimalwatte, it is only 1km to the historic "Degaldoruwa raja maha" vihara which has been donated to maha sangha by the then king of Srianka in the 18th century. On the other side you could have a long walk of about 4 km up to the Polgolla dam where the water is diverted to the north central province by obstructing Mahaweli river water. If you need a bit of luxury or the facility of a gym, swimming pool, the Earl's Regency hotel which is a star class one is only 4 km from Sirimalwatte. Otherwise a nice walk along the river is the one you would most enjoy in the evening , closer to sunset.
