In the rolling green hills outside of Kilauea, on a 4-acre organic vegetable, fruit, and flower farm, Lee Roversi and her family have a private, handcrafted redwood cottage for rent. This restful spot is an excellent choice, both in terms of comfort and value, especially for a family. The cottage has hardwood floors, a large lanai with garden views, a compact kitchenette for cooking (Lee stocks fruit, juice, muffins, croissants, fresh eggs, coffee, and tea for breakfast), and a separate bedroom with a beautiful Hawaiian quilt on the queen-size bed. The couch in the living room turns into two separate beds, so the cottage can easily sleep four. (Children are welcome.) Outside is another shower for washing off sand from the beach. The only thing the cottage lacks is a TV, but since it's so close to beaches, hiking, shopping, and restaurants, you're likely to find yourself too tired at the end of the day to watch the tube anyway.
