Waimea

Hot and sunny than the other areas on the island, Waimea is warm in the summer and hot in the winter. The area is rural and not without historical significance. It is the area where Captain James Cook first discovered the Hawaiian Islands in 1778, the area where the first missionaries settled and it was a thriving plantation town that produced sugar. Today taro and other crops are cultivated and harvested. Waimea is the gateway to the awesome Waimea Canyon and Kokee. Located upland of Waimea, this area is filled with beautiful overlooks, hiking trails and more.
