  • NileGuide Expert Says:

Kalihiwai is a must see even if the waves are big.

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

Stay out of the water if the surf is big.

    Description:

    • Kalihiwai Bay is a beautiful white sand beach and is a favorite spot for sunning and surfing. Located at the bottom of Kalihiwai Stream, the back of the beach offers shade from ironwood trees, and the whole beach is covered with fine thick sand. The river is a great place for children and adults who appreciate calm waters, but if the waves are big the mouth can be a little ruff.

As with many of Hawaii's beaches, the surf varies according to the season and wintertime brings the biggest waves, making it a good place for inexperienced swimmers and surfers to stay out of the water. The rip tides can be unpredictable and dangerous, but the beach is still a great place to visit, build sand castles, and sunbathe.

There are no showers or bathrooms here but it's not a far drive to nearby Princeville for food and shopping. The best road to take to the beach is the first Kalihiwai Road you will see coming from the east side.
