Lucy Wright Beach Park

Description:

  • Lucy Wright Beach Park lies at the mouth of the Waimea River on the southwestern shore of Kauai. The site is in the eastern reaches of the community of Waimea and a place noted for traditional Hawaiian settlement and the landing of English explorer, Captain Cook. Waimea is also a departure point for Waimea Canyon State Park, which makes Lucy Wright Park a good beginning point for other adventures.

The beach park is a good place for swimming during calm surf and when the water is clear of debris. Otherwise, strong rip currents lead from the river mouth out to sea. This site often has good surfing conditions, but beware of strong currents. Camping is permitted in a large open field. Permits are necessary for camping and can be obtained in Lihue. Facilities at this site include: picnic tables, pavilion, showers, restrooms, drinking water and a playground.
