Sugar Monument - Kauai
  • Type: Attractions
  • NileGuide Expert tip:

It's worth a look while browsing through historic Kaloa town.

  • Description:

    • Located kitty corner across from the Koloa Shops, the sugar memorial offers tribute to the first sugar mill in Hawaii that was built and functioned in Koloa, and the many people who worked on it, and the sugar mills that followed.

Here you'll find some stalks of currently growing sugar cane of various varieties, as well as a plaque remembering the various ethnic groups and the last remaining parts of the mill. The sugar industry got the island bustling with money and business, and many ethnic groups immigrated to the islands to work on the plantations.

The monument is part of the Koloa Heritage Trail.
