Description:
Kauai is the oldest of the Hawaiian islands and because of its age nature has created such marvels as Waimea Canyon and beach as well as the many other amazing beaches. And because this is the oldest island and it has withstood the test of time what better place to start making newlywed memories.
Day Note:

Learn to stand up in the warm waters of Kaua'i, on a sandy-bottom beach with an experienced, trained, First Aid-certified instructor. This is the perfect place for beginners to learn. Only one or two students are in each class, making it more like private instruction than a class.

The charming plantation-style building that used to be the Hanalei Museum is now Hanalei's gourmet central. Postcards is known for its use of healthful ingredients, fresh from the island and creatively prepared and presented. It's dinner only at this quaint eatery but a memorable experience. My picks from the changing menu are the wasabi crusted ahi or the sombrero (puff pastry filled with organic cheeses, green chiles, onions, mushrooms, and garlic) or the Shanghai (tofu with veggies and roasted cashews in a tamarind ginger sauce). Save room for the chocolate silk (a chocolate pie in a crust of graham crackers, dried cherries, and crusted cashews) -- yum-yum. In the front yard, an immense, mossy, hollowed-out stone serves as a free-standing lily pond and roadside landmark. Great menu, presentation, and ambience -- a winner.

It serves Hawaiian-inspired cuisine which focuses heavily on steak and seafood. The menu changes regularly, but you can always count on a few fresh and delicious seafood catches. The extensive wine list offers vintages from all over the world. The lounge opens a half-hour earlier than the restaurant and closes whenever patrons choose to go home.

Our Local Expert Says:
If white sand beaches and girls in bikinis is what you crave, Poipu Beach is your own personal heaven. Mainly teens and young adults are found daily walking the shores of Poipu’s beaches and strutting their “stuff.”
Description:
On the shores of "Sunny Poipu" visitors will find a stretch of coast unparalleled in beauty, and bursting with activity. At its center lies Poipu Beach Park and Brennecke's Beach. While half of the family enjoys a cool dip in the shallow pools and snorkeling along the reef, the more adventurous factions can rent a body board right on the beach and walk over to Brennecke's for some of the best body boarding on the island. Getting hungry? Try the deli or restaurants located at and around the beach, or buy some "grinds" to cook up on the many BBQ's located in the park. For a relaxing day of fun for the whole family, it is hard to beat the white sand beaches of "Sunny Poipu."

Description:
This natural phenomenon is second only to Yellowstone's Old Faithful. It's quite a sight -- big waves hit Kauai's south shore with enough force to send a spout of funneled salt water 10 feet or more up in the air; in winter, the water can get as high as six stories.
Spouting Horn is different from other blowholes in Hawaii, in that an additional hole blows air that sounds like a loud moaning. According to Hawaiian legend, this coastline was once guarded by a giant female lizard (Mo'o); she gobbled up any intruders. One day, along came Liko, who wanted to fish in this area. Mo'o rushed out to eat Liko. Quickly, Liko threw a spear right into the giant lizard's mouth. Mo'o then chased Liko into a lava tube. Liko escaped, but legend says Mo'o is still in the tube, and the moaning at Spouting Horn is her cry for help.

Our Local Expert Says:
Watching the sunset from the lawn is a fabulous view.
Description:
The Beach House Restaurant offers a Pacific Rim-influenced menu featuring a nice blend of seafood, veggie and meat dishes. But it is not just a place to eat or order drinks, the watching the sunset from the Beach House's front lawn is a sight of its own.
Visitors can sit down inside to eat, and watch the sunset from there, but drinks are not allowed on the lawn. The restaurant allows people to get comfortable on the lawn just to enjoy the sunset without ordering food. Sunsets from here on any clear evening are always vibrant and colorful, and they are the backdrop to a surf break known as PK's.
Not to be confused with Zelo's Beach House, this is a perennial favorite for fine dining. It has had a rather turbulent history that includes more than one full-scale natural disaster. Nevertheless, in spite of hurricanes, changes of ownership, and the unstable dining climate in Hawai'i, this restaurant perseveres. The Beach House usually has a mix of locals having a "pau hana" (end of work day) drink, and tourists taking in the sunset.

If there were a saimin hall of fame, Hamura's would be in it. It's a cultural experience, a renowned saimin stand where fans line up to take their places over steaming bowls of this island specialty at a few U-shaped counters that haven't changed in decades. The saimin and teriyaki barbecue sticks attract an all-day, late-night, pre- and post-movie crowd. The noodles come heaped with vegetables, wontons, hard-boiled eggs, sweetened pork, vegetables, and condiments. We love the casualness of Hamura's and the simple pleasures it consistently delivers.
