Cromwell's Bridge

• Despite the fact that Oliver Cromwell never actually came to Kerry, this bridge is traditionally known as Cromwell's Bridge. It seems more likely that the name is derived from the Irish word for moustache, croimeal. Certainly its shape does resemble a very thick moustache. A unique footbridge made with drywall construction, it has an extremely high arch. In fact, it seems amazing that anyone could actually mount it. The bridge dates from the 17th century and was built by English settlers. Do not attempt to cross it today. A much safer footbridge is further down the road on your left.
